Providence Defined
Literal Meaning : "To see forward"
“pro” (Latin: “forward,” “on behalf of”)
“vide” (Latin: “to see”)
Providence: God's act of overseeing by providing for or sustaining and governing the universe
God’s works of providence are his most holy, wise and powerful preserving and governing all his creatures, and all their actions (Westminster Catechism).
1. He upholds all things.
2. He governs all events.
3. He directs everything to its appointed end.
4. He does this all the time and in every circumstance.
5. He does it always for his own glory.
What does God’s providence teach us?
1. God cares about the tiniest details of life.
2. God uses everything and wastes nothing.
3. God’s ultimate purpose is to shape God's people into the image of Jesus Christ
